Preparing to Travel to Spain
Travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the United States, will need to obtain authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) to enter Spain and other Schengen area countries. (Read more about the new requirements to travel to Europe and learn more about your country’s visa requirements to travel to Europe. Please be sure to check with your airline for additional requirements.)
ETIAS Authorization
ETIAS is a mandatory pre-travel authorization for short-term stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period) in Schengen countries. It is electronically linked to your passport and remains valid for three years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. The application process involves providing personal information, travel details, and answering security-related questions; it is designed to be quick, with most approvals granted within minutes, and requires a €7 fee, though travelers under 18 or over 70 are exempt.
Entry/Exit System
In addition to ETIAS, the Entry/Exit System (EES) will be introduced. This system requires the collection of biometric data (such as fingerprints) upon entry and exit to enhance security and monitor traveler movements.
Additional Requirements
- Passport Validity: Ensure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen area.
- Accommodation Data Collection: Starting December 2024, Spain will require accommodations to collect and share additional personal information with the government, including: full address, email, and payment details.
Hotel Recommendations
Barcelona offers a range of excellent hotels to suit all budgets, allowing attendees to choose according to their preferences. Esade University recommends the AC Hotel Victoria Suites by Marriott, located just minutes from campus. This hotel features modern amenities and a convenient location, approximately a 17-minute walk (1.1 km) from Esade University. Other well-regarded hotels near our meeting venue include Hotel Upper Diagnol and Grand Hyatt Barcelona. We encourage you to secure your lodging as soon as possible given that it is high-season for traveling to Barcelona.
Attire
The Global Convening is never an overly formal affair, and the norm is business casual attire. In mid-June, the average temperature in Barcelona is around 77°F (25°C). In the mornings and at night temperatures may be cooler usually between 60°F – 65°F (16°C – 19°C). Temperatures in meeting rooms often fluctuate, so consider dressing in layers.
